SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Substance abuse and addiction cause major disruptions of the physical and mental well being of the abuser and those around them. Indicators of addiction include: increasing dosages or frequency of use, cravings, an inability to follow through with responsibilities at home and work, interpersonal conflicts, impulsivity, dishonesty, increased depression and anxiety, sleep disturbances, and withdrawal symptoms. Substance use disorders manifest for many reasons. Therapy can address the underlying motivating factors for substance use in a non-judgmental and empathetic setting.

TRAUMA

Defined as event/s that overwhelm an individual’s ability to cope, trauma creates long-lasting secondary effects that make life harder. Traumas experienced in childhood can stay with us long into adulthood. Unwanted effects such as emotional disturbances, physical symptoms, and negative interpersonal interactions, are just some of the legacy of trauma. In therapy, you can work through these effects, become more aware and calm, and find a way to peace. We can change how you deal with challenges, use your strength, and help you live a fulfilling life.

RELATIONSHIPS

Every relationship has challenges. Frequently, relationship difficulties are the result of deeply ingrained patterns of behavior and thought learned from childhood and shaped by events in our lives. Whether you are struggling to connect with yourself or with others, therapy can help you to master the skills needed to allow relationships to endure and flourish.

PERSONALITY DISORDERS

Personality disorders can be caused by a combination of genetic, environmental, and neurobiological factors. Genetics play a role in predisposing individuals to certain personality traits, while childhood experiences, such as trauma or neglect, can contribute to the development of dysfunctional patterns of thinking and behavior. Additionally, differences in brain structure and function may also play a role in the onset of personality disorders. It's important to note that each individual's experience with a personality disorder is unique. Together we can gain an understanding of the factors that need attention for effective treatment.

MOOD DISORDERS

Mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder, can significantly impact an individual's emotional well-being and daily functioning. These conditions involve disturbances in mood regulation, leading to persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or unpredictable mood swings. Therapy can provide support to those struggling with these symptoms to manage more effectively and lead fulfilling lives.

ANXIETY DISORDERS

Anxiety disorders are more than just feeling nervous or stressed. They encompass a range of conditions characterized by excessive worry, fear, and a lack of focus. Individuals with anxiety disorders may experience physical symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, sweating, and trembling. These conditions can significantly impact daily functioning and quality of life. Effective treatment includes learning and implementing strategies to reduce nervous system activation allowing for relaxation, increased concentration, and a better outlook on life.
