Recovering from traumatic events, facing unexpected challenges, adjusting to unforeseen change, even seeking personal growth can create instability and overwhelming feelings. Confronting these feelings can be exhausting and despairing. It is not unusual for symptoms to amplify briefly before they resolve. One role of the therapist is to help lessen any emotional upset that arises during this process. With consistent attendance and participation, it can be expected that symptoms will improve greatly.
